When Alan Major and his recently assembled staff hit the recruiting trail last summer, one of the earliest names to create buzz was an under the radar forward from Georgia. E. Victor Nickerson impressed a lot of coaches over the evaluation period. By last October, Nickerson had narrowed his list to a final five; Charlotte, Colorado, Georgia Southern, DePaul and Wichita State. On October 30th, in accordance with his 18th birthday, Nickerson announced his decision to become a Charlotte 49er, signing just a couple of weeks later.
Nickerson was the centerpiece of Alan Major’s fall commitments. Nickerson then went on to lead his high school team, the Norcross Blue Devils, to Georgia’s 5A State Championship. E. Victor Nickerson will join Terrence Williams, Pierria Henry and Mike Thorne (fingers crossed on a couple of others) this fall. Green Tinted Glasses recently exchanged questions and answers with Nickerson for your knowledge and enjoyment.
Green Tinted Glasses: What was it like watching your teammate, Jeremy Lamb, help lead UConn to a championship, does that light a fire under you to take Charlotte to new levels?
E Victor Nickerson: Very exciting and happy for him, especially since last year we lost over a controversial call in the Elite 8. Regardless if he won or not I already had motivation to do my best to take Charlotte to new levels.
GTG: Talk about the emotions of playing in and winning your state title game?
EVN: It is one of the best feelings to play in a state championship game. There arent a lot of players that get a chance to.
GTG: Have you decided what number you’ll be wearing next season for Charlotte?
EVN: I’m going to wear number 5 next year.
GTG: How well have you gotten to know your future teammates, are you encouraged about the team’s chemistry next season?
EVN: I know some better than others, but overall they all are cool. Chemistry is a big key to success.
GTG: What made you decide Charlotte was the place for you?
EVN: My relationship between the coaching staff and the players.
GTG: What are your goals for your career at Charlotte?
EVN: To have a winning season every year. Not only to make, but to go far in the NCAA Tournament. Also to win the A10 Conference.
GTG: Looking solely at your individual game, what is your strong point and what part of your game do you want to improve the most?
EVN: My strength is my IQ on the court. I need to keep improving on shooting, ball handling, and getting stronger and quicker
Come back throughout the summer as GTG plans to reach out to more incoming and former 49ers.
